Heritage Challenge Badge

Purpose: To explore a Scout’s heritage.

Learn to use the museum resources and identify different types of primary and secondary sources. Discover the origins of the Nepean community. Prepare a report celebrating your visit.

Completes three requirements of the ‘Heritage Badge.’

Program offered at Nepean Museum and Fairfields.

Space Exploration Challenge Badge

Purpose: To encourage youth to investigate the area of space exploration.

Discuss the importance of space technology in Canadian living. This could include: weather forecasts, communications, search and rescue operations, map making and promoting international cooperation between Canada and other countries. We will discuss the accomplishments of Nepean astronaut Steve MacLean.

Completes Part B of the ‘Space Exploration Badge’ and one component of Part A.

Program offered at Nepean Museum.

Voyageur Award - Citizenship

Contribute a total of five hours to your community by actively participating in three different community projects. This includes opportunities to volunteer here at Nepean Museum for special events.

Completes point one of the Citizenship component of the ‘Voyageur Award.’

Pathfinder Award - Citizenship

We invite you to visit and learn about the different types of careers that are available at museums. Your visit will include: a short talk, a guided tour, discussion with professional staff.

Completes point 6 of the citizenship component of the ‘Pathfinder Award.’

Artist Badge

Visit the museum and be creative! Sketch objects found in the gallery, design and make a greeting card, create an original model and draw a spectacular scene.

Completes four requirements of the ‘Artist Badge.’

Canadian Heritage badge

Canadian Heritage Badge

Celebrate Canadian heritage with a visit to Nepean Museum. Learn a Canadian folksong and legend. Enjoy a guided tour and make a postcard about your visit. Draw and trace a simple map of Canada.

Near Remembrance Day, ask about the opportunity to speak with a Canadian veteran.

Completes four requirements of the ‘Canadian Heritage Badge.’

Handicraft Badge

Toys don't have to come from a store! Create toys from recycled materials. Prepare a puppet for a play. Start a farmyard project to take home.

Completes four requirements of the ‘Handicraft Badge.’

Blast off for an adventure at Nepean Museum! Discuss the role of space technology in our everyday lives. Design and build a space station. Make a model of a space craft. Draw a special space suit complete with special features!

Purple Star Activities – A Requirements

Learn all about Canada on this museum visit. Draw and discuss the history of the Canadian flag. Recite “O Canada.” Trace a map of Canada. Identify what products are made in Canada and what Canadian products are sold internationally. Discuss the benefits of doing community service projects and make a simple scrapbook celebrating a famous Canadian.

Completes six ‘Purple Star’ A Requirements.

Tawny Star Activities – B Requirements

Visit the museum for an evening of imagination and construction. Create a mini-exhibit using museum resources. Prepare a poster for a special event. Build a birdfeeder for your yard. If time permits, make equipment for a game.

Completes three ‘Tawny Star’ B requirements.
