Sharon Vance - Exhibitions Volunteer, Algonquin College
Volunteering with the exhibitions work at Nepean Museum is never dull! From installing travelling exhibits and wrestling with mannequins, to setting artifacts in display cases and shifting others back to the collections facility, there is always something to do.
I love volunteering at Nepean Museum because I enjoy how it brings many facets together in one location. I enjoy having the ability to interact with the artifacts and the collections, as well as work on other projects. I’ve written press releases, reviewed exhibit panels and researched information for upcoming exhibits. I even enjoy aspects such as tearing down panels, scrapping chipped paint and puttying the walls!
Working with the staff at the Museum is always a joy. They are always laughing and joking. They’re always willing to help with my assigned tasks, but also with school projects and other quandaries.
For me the few hours a week I volunteer at Nepean Museum are some of the least stressful of the week. Time passes too quickly when I’m at the Museum working on projects and talking with the staff. It’s something I hope to continue for some time.
