Special Events and Programs

Every year Nepean Museum hosts a variety of events, exhibit openings and programs. If you have experience in event planning, programming, education or child care we have an opportunity for you. We are looking for volunteers to help plan, coordinate, assist and facilitate events and programs. Those wishing to assist with our Family Zone or Learning Links programs will require a criminal record check prior to volunteering.
If you are interested in volunteering at Museum events please contact our volunteer coordinator at: [email protected]

Exhibits

If you enjoy research, graphic or interior design, painting or installation work we have the perfect project for you. From the beginning planning stages to the final installation a great deal of work goes into the creation of an exhibit. If you would like to assist in the production of an exhibit contact our Volunteers Co-ordinator.

Collections Management

With roughly 20,000 artifacts in our collection, Nepean Museum always needs volunteers to assist in collections management projects. If you are trained or experienced in artifact handling, historical research, database entry or photography consider working with our collection. We need volunteers to research, catalogue, accession, inventory, photograph and digitize our collections.

Research

Nearly every aspect of museum work involves research. If you enjoy reading and learning about your local history please consider this as an excellent volunteer opportunity. We need volunteers to conduct background research for special events, programs, exhibits and artifacts. Research projects may involve frequenting local libraries and archives to retrieve information. However research is also a great project for those that need to work from home or cannot commit to coming to the Museum during the week.

Student Placements and Community Service Assignments

Nepean Museum provides excellent and relevant volunteer projects to students who are interested in or required to complete a special project or volunteer placement. We accept High School, College and University students from various disciplines for such projects. If you are enrolled in a program or class related to museum studies, library and archives, history, volunteer, cooperative education, hospitality and tourism or child care we have an opportunity for you to gain further experience in your field.

Volunteer and Membership Recruitment

Nepean Museum is looking for individuals who possess an outgoing personality and are interested in an ongoing volunteer commitment. We are looking for someone to assist in the recruitment of Members on behalf of Nepean Museum. This person must be willing to commit three hours a week to this project. This project is very important in increasing the public's awareness of our ongoing programs, events and exhibits.
